Ok ,I changed my mind and I want to put my layer of veneer on the bottom of my blank, but I want to contact glue it on a glassing layer of west system epoxy and cover it after with a 4oz .Doing it this way I have only 1 layer of wood and 1 layer of cloth and resin .I dont want to glue it on the foam(delam). On top I will have 2 layers of 4oz as usual. It s a Simmons 6.10.My question is about the resin on foam without cloth...what do you think (excuse my poor english)
Use epoxy to glue the veneer to the foam,it is best to have a layer of fiberglass in between the foam and veneer. You do it all in one shot, cut your veneer and glass at the same time with the glass on top using a round fabric cutter, wet out the glass with epoxy and remove the excess. Then flip it onto the blank with the glass and epoxy on the foam, tape it into place. Then you need to figure out a way to apply constant pressure to the veneer while the epoxy cures. If not it could curl and cure curled which would equal…the opposite of good.
Thank you Jesus ,I understand very well the way to do it....But what do you think of glassing a blank with no cloth?the bottom will be ....1 resin only let dry ....2contact glue .... 3 veneer ....4 cloth and resin......... thank you jesus to answering me (prays the lord)
Hey canadiansurfer,
I don’t think it is a good idea to put resin on the foam before you apply the contact cement. It will not avoid the delam problems. In my opinion you have two options: if your veneer is very thin, you will need glass unter it. with a thicker veneer or plywood (like 3mm poplar plywood) you better use pu-glue. pu glue expands a bit during drying and gives a very good bond between wood and foam. cheers florian
Ok ,Thanks Florian ,and yes ,my veneer is very thin I cut it with regular scisors.thanks for advice!
Use epoxy to attach the veneer to the foam, the layer of glass is not required between the foam and veneer(just reccomended).Contact glue might work, epoxy will work.No need to prays me,Im actually an atheist named Mike haha.Did you really think the holy gost was giving you board building advice?!
Hey Canadian. Last Clark Blank you will ever touch and you are going to cap it? What density is it?
Guess foam is foam. Opinions are like ... everyone has one etc. but that blank must be really crisp(well cured) by now and would finish out so nice. Whatevers, hit me up for the small lam if you want it.
