glassing amounts...about to order...any thoughts?

hey all. i’m about to order my resin and materials from SurfSource, and i wanted some last minute advice on if i’m good to go. my board is 9’8.

  • 2 gallons of s249a lam resin w/mekp

  • 2 quarts of supergloss resin

  • extra 2oz of mekp

  • 1 quart of wax solution (for hotcoat to mix with s249a)

any ideas if this is sufficient for lam, hot, and gloss?````````

I’d throw in enough UV powder for your lam. If this is your first time with glassing trying to lay up a 9’8 with MEKP it will be the fastest 30 min. of your life. Do yourself a favor and go with the UV additive. Take your time with the laps and make sure your have everything saturated. You should be able to handle the MEKP for the hotcoat.

order your gloss resin elsewhere and make it Reichold…you’ll get a better finish with it. (and i’m fairly certain that there is no hazmat charge for delivering only 1-qt of resin)

also, some extra styrene monomer

Quick question… whats the blank made out of?..better not be EPS if you are thinking of using poly. I’m probably sure you already though about it, but doesnt hurt to make sure.

Hey Barefeet

What weight cloth and how many layers are you planning? That seems like an awful lot of resin to me but I’ve only done boards under 8’ so far. I have got away with less than a gallon of resin each to build mine and they are hollow wooden with the inside glassed aswell. A gallon is around 5 kilos so ten kilos plus gloss is well heavy even if you do sand loads.
