Glassing Fish Pins

Any ideas on how to wrap glass around each pin? Seems no matter what way, they always end up weak and prone to dings.

wow, what a beauty !

thanks for that Ant !!

… I wouldn’t mind giving THAT a go on my next one , if I don’t go with another wood tail and nose block [I wonder how resin NOSE blocks would look ??]

cheers !

Austin did beautiful resin tail block… with colour layers and everything… so a nose block cant be too much more difficult…

Herb was(is) making fish tip protectors. Laminating little plastic stringers into the tips. Look at some of his boards in the archives. Mike

The old-time glasser who showed me some things long ago called 'em “pac-mans”.

Circles of cloth, with a wedge cut out. Wet them out on a sheet of plastic, drop them on the tips, wrap around. Do another from the other side so the cuts don’t land in the same place. Unlike the g-string, do them after laminating.

is the cut a 1/4 of the circle? or smaller?

Less than a quarter, but it depends on the thickness of your pin/rail. You don’t even have to remove it, just use it like a relief cut & then surform off the lap once it kicks.

I’m no Doc or Balsa, but I’ll try a little drawing to show where to arrange the glass. After laying on the wet glass like shown, wrap both sides of the ‘mouth’ down & around the tips.

Hope it makes sense. It works very well.
