I’m going to turn a spare room in my house into my glassing space. Tired of dealing with inconsistent temperatures of the east coast. Anyone else do this? Looking for tips on how to keep the smell down in the rest of the house
Yes. So I could glass in cold months.
Until my son moved back in, I used whatever room had been vacated. I put down polyethylene tarps.
No smell issues because I use epoxy.
In desperation, I’ve even known more than one case of glassing in the van, lol
I glass in my house, but it’s downstairs in my converted garage. I placed large pieces of cardboard, then I put plastic sheeting over that. I also have a spill catching barrier that gets most of the drips, so most of the resin falls on that. I clean that off after a few boards.
I use epoxy, so the smell is minimum. I rarely use poly resin, but when I use poly, I have to close all the doors that go to that room then later vent out the room before opening the doors.
I do all the shaping and sanding outside under my house.
I also live in Hawaii, so the temps are usually high, not low. I often have to laminate early or wait until later in the day. I do the resin work inside where the air in the room is still.
Hello,
Some questions you should ask yourself and some of my ideas and how i do it.
1- does the Room have a Windows you can Open? If yes then you can install some kind of fan to suck air out.
2- do you live Alone or with more people (wife, children, dog etc…)
3- epoxy resin or the pe resin silmar 249 Bb are not very strong in smell as for other resins they can smell a Lot.
4- green house plastics to cover the floor and a lamination table are a good way to keep the mess out of the Room.
Heres is a picture of my 3x4 meters lam Room you can see the lam table and the covered floor.
Nice man. I live alone for the most part except when I have my daughter a few days of the week. I plan on using a fan in the window and sealing the door and caulking around electrical outlets. I only use pu so it’s gonna be tough. Wondering if an air purifier would help as well
you should switch to epoxy, it has almost no smell
A switch to Epoxy would reduce the smell BUT make sure you still vent the room well AND wear a respirator as the fumes are still harmful.
