Just a reminder, we are having a shape-a-thon/glass-a-thon/mini-Swaylockstock/Octoberfest this Saturday (the day before Halloween (Oct. 30). We will start at 10AM because there is a low tide in the afternoon, that will allow us to all go out for a surf and wash the dust off too! There will be cold beer, as usual. Bring a board to swap in the water, bring blanks you want to shape or glass, (who’s going to do the Halloween orange resin tint?) or make some fins if you feel like it… it’s a free-for-all!
Weather is looking good, too. I have the following on my “maybe or definitely” going to be there list: resinhead, tenover, darren, markssd, GlennShotwell, TimCampbell, LeeV, BenB, Msacht, DaKlaw… always room for more, though. Same location as last time. PM me with questions or post them here.
Well, after the FIRST big rain I waited 72 hours. But this is the 2nd one, so it won’t be nearly as bad, since most of the nasty stuff flushed down the storm drains last week. This rain is supposed to be Wed/Thurs, so by Saturday afternoon I’ll feel pretty comfortable sticking my head back in the water.
Maybe even Saturday morning…or Friday after work. Particularly if the surf picks up!
Hey Spazman - there are no rules, but based on how it went the first couple of times, I’m thinking we’ll probably go till 3pm or so. Could be longer, could be shorter, just depends who shows up and what they want to do…
I have some bad news Keith. It turns out that me and my mates cant make your gathering. Chase’s dad is moving back to India and his going away party is friday night in Santa Monica. We all give you our regardsand hope you guys have a ball. We wont miss the next one. Darren
ps. Baja has been treating the canned food bandits real well this quarter
I want to come on down. I’ve not gotten the stuff together for making a composite skinned board. I’m still working on it. But it would be good to get some insight about rocker and outline from others this weekend for what I want to make in the future.
What I want to eventually to do is hotwire a “solid” EPS blank from a larger block of foam rather glue thinner sheets together. I need to continue to work on contacting the people at Insulfoam on where to get what I need. Maybe when I find it I could talk one or two others here into going in on it if the block would make a few blanks. And I’m now wanting to go with a PVC foam composite skin, like Divinycell, rather than balsa. But I now know where to get all that I need except for the block of EPS which I want to be the EDRO EPS that has been recommended for it’s ability to withstand water. If I can’t find it here soon I guess it’s off to Lowes.
What I am hoping is that I will meet others that might be able to help me with a rocker template and outline ideas for my future project If I could carpool that would be great too. I’ve got a ford van and am willing to drive. Anyone want to carpool? My house is near Salt Creek. We could meet here or hook up as I drive south.
The surf could be good on Saturday. Where would we surf?
Keith, email me at oceansliderATcoxDOTnet for directions and contact info.
Aww man… I’m bummed that I couldn’t make it. Parents kinda dropped into town at the last minute. (Went fishin’ with pops and got a few Yellowtail, however). I’m sure you guys had a blast. Damn… well, I will be there for the next one for sure. Thanks anyway for hosting, Keith. Supercool of you.
Hey there Shipman, glad you made it down. And everybody else too! I had fun, but you know the next day the surf picked up… would have been nice to have had bigger waves. Can’t plan that, though…
