The glass job came out like crap, but hey, it’s my first board, and I love it anyway. Hopefully I can smooth it out a bit when I sand tomorrow or tuesday. Got some dirt in it that I couldn’t get out and just said “f#@k it” and hot coated anyway. I’m sure with practice things will go more smoothly… at least the shaping went well…
Get lots and lots of folks coming off the street wondering what the hell I’m doing - guess there aren’t too many shapers in Brooklyn…
I live in a loft in Williamsburrg, Brooklyn and I tried to glass my first board in the loading dock using UV resin. My plan was to keep the door shut until I was finished laminating and then open the roll up and let the sun light in. The neighbors shut me down before I could finish. The smell was to bad and almost everyone in the building came down and made me open the door.
I build mine in an open car port and hang tarps to catch the dust and prevent the wayward uv photon from brushing my lams. I still get dirt, pollen, dust, bugs, and dog hair in mine. Gives them a nice garage board look. You have a really nice space to build your boards. Mike
Even better… I get daily offers to build other folks boards… but you know what… the hat is going out tomorrow, thanks for the idea. Hopefully the mimes won’t show up to steal my thunder…

Hey Collider
Great piccies, you should have put a hat down for donations and for the street show. “Step right up and watch a surfboard being made”
Much better than those dorks who make animals out of long balloons.
Hey Mark - we’re probably neighbors… I’m right next to the brooklyn brewery - stop by and say hi sometime…
The neighbor thing will definitely start to be a hassle if I keep this up. What’s the deal with epoxy? Is there really no smell? Is it less toxic?
Shaping in the loading dock there is no problem at all… as long as I clean up… but the smell… goes right up the elevator shaft and into everyone’s apartments. I’m starting to miss the old days when there weren’t so many yuppies here…
