Glassing

I was looking at the eggs in the board section and wondering about fin > selection, size, aspect ratio, rake, flex. I know there is much more to side > fins than size, just looking for others ideas and oppinions. I will be shaping a 6’8" x 21" this weekend. I will be using a 2+1 set up on it . I’ll let you know how it works, Scott.

I have been riding a 2+1 semi-gun for a few years. I have to say that I am completely pleased with its performance. I like the way you can roller-coaster down the line and use the waves whole face, instead of those jerky thruster type convulsions you have to do. I will be the first to admit that this design is not an all around design but works great in a really walled up down the line wave. I picked up a 7’0" egg a few weeks back also with the 2+1 set up and like it allot for an all round board still have to do some tweaking with the side fin’s. I am believer in keeping small side fins, mine have been in the 2.25" depth, 3.25 base area, with at max a .125 toe-in. Just my two cents worth.

Swaylock, what size fin(s) have > you used with that egg, and how did different fins effect the performance. Rob, I’ve only used the fin pictured - a super stiff, ca. 7.5", box fin with little rake. I’ve found that that fin works very well in point break style waves but seems a little stiff (translation: the board likes to go straight) in hollow beach break waves like Ocean Beach SF. I want to experiment with the flex fins that Peter Rijk has been talking about and, when I’m feeling particularly nutty, a wing keel fin. Let me know how your fins turn out. Swaylock

How much extra overall sixe does glassing - 6+4 deck, 6 bottom - add to a board? If I want a board to be 19" wide and 2.5" thick do I need to shape the blank 18.75" and 2.25"? Thanks for the help. D
