Glider comparison, Munoz 11' vs Hall Fishsimmons

I have ridden the Munoz.  It’s a complete Dog.  Most people who are infatuated with 11’ Fryrs and 12 Munoz’s couldn’t turn a 8 footer, but somehow think jumping to a 12 will improve there abilities by 4 ft.  If all you want to do is go straight then those 11 plus footers are the ticket.  Munoz was not the Back Bone of Hobie Surfboards. Terry Martin was.  Terry got No credit during the hey day.  Munoz got alot of publicity, pics in mags, surf movies etc.  But what did he do design wise.  Nada.

Have fun out there.  If the boat floats;  Ride it.  I’m sure that if I rode one for six months, I could rip on it too.  I like to take a walk to the nose not a cross-town hike.  I will say that if I took that template and an 11’3" blank I could shape something that rode better.

Have you tried the new lighter 11’ version? How much do you weigh? This board has received rely good reviews from John Mellor and Steiny. I trusted their judgement and went with the 11’ because Steiny thought the 12’ had too much rocker and pushes water. I love the board and it can be driven hard in waves with some size and shape, dropping and climping and rely " surf" the board.

But I’m no ripper or noserider, have no interest whatsover in that. Just super stoked on this so called "dog"and I think you have no Idea what you are talking about in regards to Munoz shaping.

Think you need to rely dial in a board and at least get the right fin position before passing judgement on the design or shaper.

This “dog” sure makes surfing crap days fun. One more thing about the munoz 11’ it does not take the highline as easily as the fishsimmons or andreini, but rather likes to be pumped up and down the face if that makes any sence. On the other hand it does not catch rails as the other boards and can plane further on its meaty rails in weak waves at lower speeds compared to pinched rail boards. Salut Mickey!
