Gloss Coat flowing off deck!?

The gloss coat on my latest board is flowing off the deck. What the hell happend? It’s almost like part of it has cured and the rest is flowing over the top. Too thick? Not mixed hot enough? I’m sure there is a simple answer.

sounds like not enough mekp to me.

probably laid on too thick, and/or kicked too slow, and/or deck sanded too smooth… don’t feel too bad, gloss resin loves to slab off, happens to almost everybody at one time or another…

i aim for kicking it in 10min. too slow and it’ll run off…to fast and brushlines won’t smooth out. of couse mekp measurements vary

Gloss resin is  thixotropic resin, it has a strong surface tension, when on too thick, the surface tesion is holding, but the resin under is moving, suddenly the surface tension breaks and like stretch marks, the liquid resin “tears”, leaving it nearly dry underneath, needs to be brushed on thinner, it has happened to every glosser

Avalanche!

the slabs!!!!!

I hate that,,,

like the rest said,,, lay it on thin , which meens brush it off with firm strokes

and make sure the board and the resin is warmer than 70 deg

Ive actualy got a better gloss on longer kick times,,, go figure
