HI guys, ive made around 17 boards now and looking to establish myself as acustom shaper. The next few orders require a gloss coat. However i have just tried taupo gloss from seabase and it creates a reaction as the catalyst sets in causing it to repel itself away from the paint. im using cellulose paint which is the least reactive of all paints so am unsure of why this is happeneing. ive contacted seabase and they dont have a clue. Can anyone sugest what to do next a i have now come stuckwith orders waiting.
Thanks for you time guys,
Nino
Ive attached an image of the board
Not sure it’s a chemical thing, though I can discount that it is, I know resin hate silicone and cellulose may be the same, I’ve only ever used water based acrylic that I know to be safe.
I think that it could be as simple as the paint is too smooth for gloss to stick to so it has tried to pull away. You should key the paint first by lightly sanding it with high grit paper 320 work for me just to take the shine off no need to flatten.
That may cause other problems of the paint bleeding into the resin so you will have to do a test first if you won’t to re do it with the same paint.
As far as rectifying the situation I’m afraid you will need to get the sander out and re-paint/re gloss the whole area. If the paint is just on the rails just re do that area, once its sanded and polished you want be able to tell.
I would recommend switching to liquitex acrylic paint, most art stores will stock it.
Thats fis eye...you got contimination. What is celluous paint? sounds thick...Is it waterbased, and drys powdery? Did you spray it on the blank or on the hotcoat. if on the hotcoat, then you probably put it on too thick, or you cut it with something contaminated? Or if it's in one spot only, you put you grubby little hands in something then touched your board when you flipped it. Probably hand lotion when you went in for a little self romance?
Keep it clean and thin
