I just opened a new quart of glossing resin and it had chunks that looked like little peices of translucent paper in it. Is this wax that’s not disolved? How do I get it smooth? or is it wasted? -Newone
I think it’s wax that needs to be disolved? Adding some styrene, might help but it might make it to brittle? Anyone else know what it is or have a clue? -Jay
are they hard chunks or gummy chunks? Hard and almost clear- resin is toast, crystallised, only good for popout repairs. Gummy/soft - resin got a little cold: put it in a warm room for 24 hours and shake it. Hope that’s of use doc…
I agree with Doc, I have that problem all the time when it’s cold outside. I keep my room about 60 degrees until I am ready to work out there then I bring it up to 72 or so an hour ahead of time. My wax solution will be solid! Have to warm the can in front of the heater for awhile and shake to get it workin’. That is my wax additive. I can see how the gloss resin could do the same thing. Unless you got the stuff from an unusual source that might have had it on the shelf for awhile it should be good. Try warming it up and see if it goes away. If it is wax, 72 degrees should do the trick. Dont use it with the chunks in it. Everywhere one ends up will leave a hole through to the hot coat! Krokus
NEVER gloss without straining first
I just leave my gloss outside in the rain for two months and then start posting for help…
That was sanding resin, not hotcoat It seems that i struck a cord with that affair.
why is it I think you learned that lesson the same way I learned that lesson…
I think alot of folks have, or perhaps just wont admit too it. Everything has a learning curve.
okay, OKAY! I’m letting it go… Out of sympathy; I’m letting it go… I feel good.
Woops - I should have written 'Jim, why is it I think you learned that lesson the same way I learned that lesson… ’ By the way, if you let your resin freeze it may cause it to partially crystallise. Best to keep it at least 50 degrees F all the time, storing it in a dry part of a cellar or someplace like that if your workshop is unheated. Haven’t had any problems with epoxies, but polyesters have gone bad on me. hope that’s of use doc…
