What is the best way to go about putting my own light gloss coat on a store bought sand finished board? Want to go the extra mile and put a real gloss layer on. Thank you.
This may not be all that easy. As you can read on some of the other posts, most of the guys put a finish on the sand coat. Be it Cure-seal, or one of the others. Getting this finish off is not easy and if you can’t get it all off you are wasting your time trying to put on a gloss finish, it will not stick. Next time you buy a board have the gloss put on at that time.
sand it with 150. try not to sand down to the cloth.just enough to scuff it up nicely. get the board dust free, maybe wipe it down with acetone. tape it off at halfway around the rail. then apply gloss. fairly simple. make sure there is no draft in the room. temperature is a big factor too. around 75.
