Wow!
Thanks for that Ant. All the detail I could need.
Guess the silly questions stop, for now.
At least, from me ![]()
Cheers again!

Hey Silly,
just a heads-up… …I use POR 15 on one of my cars and most of their product is not UV stable.
I think they do make it stable but look for the harder clear coatings with UV inhibitor in it…
Joel,
The blank is from scratch, a block of foam cut out to the right rocker with templates and a hot wire, split into 3 pieces with a long hot wire, it has 2 stringers and a solid block of balsa in the tail between the stringers (they are 1" apart) for the finbox. Stringers are made of balsa, could only get a hold of 4 foot long pieces, so I scarfed them together for the right length.
Glue up can be difficult, I still have not mastered the technique yet, but am getting better each time. Next time I will try to use the offcut of the foam to support the stringer glue up (tip from here on Sways) to make the glue up much less difficult, or go stringerless.
In around 3 weeks I will be starting a new board from scratch (sketches) and how I use the spreadsheet I have posted elsewhere to make the shaping easier, especially the rail bands. If anyone is interested, I can document the progress.

ahh
thanks for that tip george
its is the next step i gotta take really to get a good finish

silly,
Have you looked into this?

It’s new name is Perfection Varnish, a 2-part polyurethane, made for brushing on. If you don’t like the fumes, the System 3 WR-LPU is an option. I believe POR-15’s equivalent would be the glisten pc.
You can see the new perfection varnish at www.interlux.com
I have some S3 WR-LPU, but have not used it yet. They are all of comparable price (which means expensive).

I’m trying to get a gloss. I sanded 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. When I polished, I found swirl scratches. I had used the disc sander with 1000 and up. Don’t ask me why. So I did the whole sequence again, by hand.Circular motions and then in line (fore aft). I got it to where you would need a magnifying glass to fins any sanding scratches. But when I polish, it is still somewhat dull.
Is that just a fact of life with epoxy?
