I was doing some art work on my sand coat (with paint pens) and want to gloss over it with epoxy - but epoxy can be really sensitive to grease and oil from your hands (my hands were all over while painting). Giving it an acetone or alchohol wipe is out of the question as I’m sure it will mess up the art work. How do others prep for glossing in this situation?
Yes, I’m hiding a really crappy lap grinding job!! haha.
Howzit Herb, I don’t use acetone to prep a board for glossing I use dish soap and water which seems to not mess with the art work or in my case pin lines. Do a test on an old board since you can always take the art off with acetone after the test. Another trick is to use india ink for the art work since I know soap and water won’t remove it, that way you can wash the board and your art will be OK and the board is clean enough to gloss. Soap is pretty good at removing oil and grease. A tougher version of soap is GoJo or one of the orange cleaners. 409 or Fantastic may prove to work well too. Load up on the Additive F… double the regular dose.
