Glue for blanks

What type of glue is used to glue the stringer into the blanks?

What type of glue is used to glue the stringer into the blanks? I don’t know what type of glue is used on the stringer, but you can use a glue gun to attach tail blocks to the blank, if that is any help.

What type of glue is used to glue the stringer into the blanks? Clark uses a standard polyester resin with a thickner to increase the viscosity. It has a small amount of white pigment for the regular glue-up and any color that you might request. I save the glass shop catch bucket resin, the bottom of the gloss drum, it is too waxie for glosses and keep a continuous batch brewing, one of white and one of black for regular glue-ups. Anytime I get a special color I mix it for the job. By it being “old” resin the styrene has had a chance to evaporate and increases the thickness, allowing it to stay on the stringer longer. Some woods and wood combinations hate polyester and at times refuse to go off leaving a glue-up that falls apart when the clamps are taken off. Basswood almost always stays together, but some redwood and western cedar when put in t-band combo’s cancels the effects of the catalyst, resulting in a failed bond.

Thanks Jim

I hope this is a half-assed, tongue in cheek attempt at sarcasm or it’s one of the morons from 2nd light.com. Jim “doin’ it right the first time”

I glue up my blanks with a sika flex product that bonds to all types of wood. I have never had one fail. You have about 20 min to clamp the blank and 4 hours before you can un clamp. Also add tint to the sika but it slows down the drying time. Rabbit www.southcoastfoam.com.au
