I’m shaping my first board and when I glued the stringer yo the foam there are little gaps between the foam an stringer. I figure it will delam after glassing if it’s not fixed. Do I need to take it apart and redo or is there a solution. Someone told me I could fill it with resin after shaping any other ideas ? Thanks
pics?
You should at least fill with resin or you could get air bubbles along the stringer when you glass the board.Make sure you flatten the resin out so you don’t have to sand it next to the soft foam.
EPS? If so, you're likely going to bog the foam with spackling or micro-balloon epoxy mixture. When you do this, all the gaps will get filled (enough to glass anyway). As long as it's holding together well enough to shape, you'll be fine.
It’s eps
You can tape it off close to the stringer and put a slurry of micro-balloons (Q-cell) and resin in the gap. Taping it off keeps it from getting all over the rest of the foam and making some funky looking spots (especially important if you're going to be using color. If you plan on airbrushing, do this step before spraying. Actually, you could do this pre-shaping, but if the gaps are more than 1/16", the resin mix will be tough on your shaping tools.
Use some white gorilla glue. It will foam up as it sets to fill the voids. Then use some resin to fill in the air bubbles. The gorilla glue will reduce the amount of resin you use and save some uneccessary weight.
what about filling the holes with resin and qcell? that should fill the holes in nicely, and then sand over it to get it back down to flush with the rest of your board.
andrew this picture is blurry as all h-e-double hockey sticks
Is your camera broken?
I’ve run polaroids through my scanner that look better than that shizzle.
Had the same problem with my first board that Im shaping now, hope the spackle helps. Thanks for the help guys!
