I use lower grit sandpaper to start on EPS 40-60-80.
The places that sell supplies for wood floor sanding have the paper with adhesive on the back. I use this kind to stick to boards to make sanding tools.
PS: It’s probably worth trying out the sandpaper on an extra piece of foam to get the feel for how much it cuts and how hard to push.
