Good Karma vs. Spherical Revolver

Could anyone who have ridden or know the shapes tell me the differences in the ride for each?

me too, i’d like to know

I have an SR 7’6 . … that things so great. I can carve waves, and it was a blast during this spring / summer. I could get it diagonal (as opposed to vertical) on the waves, with 2+1 fins, but best used a single doing carving, projecting turns. It worked best from knee high to head high. I could trim and set the line with this, or carve over the face. The best waves on this was great.

It paddled better than my 9’ Robert August, and could handle the soft mushy waves of high tide, or the near hollow ones of low tide at the beach break I used it.

The waterman’s guild glassing is top notch. I took off on a six foot wave, angling to escape the curl, and this heavy beefy girl took off going straight in front of me on her 10 foot surftech. It happened too fast, I just jumped off, grabbed my board, but it was too late, I heard the sickening crack. Over the falls and came up. My board was loose, and drifted in (I was leashless at the time), and I swam after it. I met up with her later and apologized (even though I was in the right and a little upset). The SR had dime sized spiderweb (but didn’t open up); her board had 3 inches deep rail gouge and it was sized where the SR’s rail had hit it. I offered to pay, after quickly noticing my board was nearly pristine, but her’s wasn’t . . . but she said she didn’t care.

The only thing was that when it got OH and a half, steep faces the SR need lots of work.

I rode a Good Karma 6’4", the SR rides more like a tighter turning longboard, you could trim with it. The Good Karma rides more like a shortboard gentle, cruisy type turns. It could trim, but not like the SR, yet it was more responsive in turning. It compared more like CI single fin, than the SR but the length has something to do with it . . .

I’m thinking a shorter SR would have been a better comparision. Looking at the JT egg at 7’4" in a random surfshop it is a little thicker and wider than the SR I have, so it would be less responsive. Plus the SR has a crescent shaped fin with a little more spring that the stock JT fin their egg comes with.

Harbour has great customer service, plus questions can be asked at his website’s forum

I’d personally go with Harbour. Harbours shapes are refined, while Joel Tudor’s tends to go for old school 60’s-70’s-80’s with his shapes. Plus you can go into the forum and ask questions and they have great customer service.

The reasoning is that most of JT’s shortboard shapes I can get equivalents cheaper if I wanted to go retro, but longboards, harbours I’m used to. At the moment I’m into shorter shapes. When I get a new jobby job, and have some $$ to use, I’m going to get a 6’10" SR . …
