Got a large fin sized gash in my longboard nose, need to know where to buy stuff to fix

Hi,

Today, my buddy ran over my board with his fin. I could go to Roper’s and get it professionally fixed, and I may do that if I find fixing it myself too difficult. But I wanted to post here first and ask if you guys can recommend some resources, some websites where I can learn how to do it myself. I know there’s more to it than just solar rez, so what sort of resin do I need to buy, fiberglass cloth, etc? What else do I need to consider? Do I need to fill the hole with more foam?

The board is Polyesther I believe…

Hiya,

There are plenty of clips on YouTube that will help you.

I reckon there are a number of ways to repair it. A bit hard without a photo of the damage.

The easy way is just to use some solarres that has some chopped glass in it and fill it up. Won’t look pretty but will make it water tight.

The ‘proper’ way is to clean out the gash

Sand down a area surrounding the gash, making sure you dont sand down too much, cut a wedge of foam to fit the gash ( if it is really wide) or use some q cell mixed with resin to fill the gash.

Lay down some 4oz cloth covering the gash and the sanded down area

Hotcoat

Sand smooth

Wax

And go surfing.

Mitches in La Jolla should have everything you need for the repair. After watching the Videos You just might want to take it to Joe Roper or some of the Other Ding Pros in San Diego.

1st - be sure if is plyester or polyurethane, like this u know what resin to use (epoxy/polyester) or what solarez to buy

2nd - sand it

3rd mix some resin with microballons

3rd use a piece of fiber cloth

4th let it dry

5th sand it

etc

u can also put a picture of it

Thanks guys. since it was a friend’s board, I took it to Roper’s to make sure it was done right. If I every have this happen to one of mine, I’ll attempt to fix it myself and this advice will help. thanks!
