Hi People,
Looking for a bit of advice. I recently got sick of stuggelling on waffer thin boards and really not getting many waves. Those thin boards were ok when I was younger, fitter, could surf almost everyday and did not have the health issues I do now. I recently jumped on a McCoy 6’6" Nugget. Loved the amount of waves I could catch and the volume had some advantages but it is a bit corky and just not responsive enough and difficult to surf vertically, demanding to be strictly ridden heavy off the back foot. Maybe I would like a 6’0 Nugget but am thinking that the Nuggets just are not for vert, top to bottom style surfing. I recently have looked into getting a Grant Miller Waterskate. Sounds like a happy meduim between the Nugget and a modern high performance board. Only problem is that Grant has been off on sabatical and wont be shapping again till later in the year, no doubt he also will have a long waiting list with previous clients wanting to order new boards. So, I figure I will get my local shaper to make something similar to a 6’4" x 21 x 2 5/8 Waterskate with a 5 fin configaration so I can ride it as a thruster or quad. A happy meduim between the Nugget and a modern high performance board and will serve as my all round board.
If anyone has a template or any info that will help my local shaper make a board like this, as much info as you can provide on the following specs would be great:
Template/outline
Nose width, nose thickness, nose rocker?
Tail width, tail thickness, tail rocker?
Where is the wide point? Forward, centre or back? How much?
Rails description? Blocky or medium or half way between? Where does it start to get hard and sharp?
Cant angle on the rear quad fins?
Any other info that will help my shaper would also be great, he has a shaping machine too…
cheers
Dan
