hi…been looking at this board for a while now and cant seem to get a response with emails/texts for some answers.
pic is of a greg hanel astro egg. my question is reguarding the notable “channels” in front of the two front thuster fins.
whats the function of these “channels” and how do they change how the board rides? also would these “channels” be incorporated into a desired rolled vee to shallow single/double with vee?
Check your spelling. It’s Gary Hanel. A quick Google with the right name will get you tons of info. Looks like a Moonlight Glassing logo too. Check out the SurfySurfy web site while your at it. Lot’s of GH stuff over there…Ray
But I believe it is meant to flatten the rocker in the middle of the board while maintaining the curvature on the rails. So exactly the same purpose as a concave. However, more disruptive to flow not parallel to the stringer.
I don’t see any advantages, but I haven’t heard the reasoning of the shaper.
Gary is a ecxcellent shaper Been at since the mid 1970’s He is known for his Eggs and Bonzers. I have an Idea the channles are coming from his shaping Bonzers and looking into something diffrent. Maybe it’s time to get gary over here to post up some info. He is a good guy.
