Just wanted to let my Swaylockian friends know that Greg Liddle and Me(Larry) at Fibre Glas Fin just locked a working relationship in manufacturing Greg’s complete Volan Flex Fin Signature Series. The fin foils are precise with approval from Greg Liddle who thaught me in the late 70’s to foil these type of fins, which we at Fibre Glas Fin did at that time for him.
The fins will come with a special flex finish and with a stainless steel break away plate and stainless hex head screw using a ProBox Key. This will allow you multi fin guys to have one key to lock everything and this ProBox key can be used with FCS and Future Finsystems also. Pretty STOKED to be back with Mr. Liddle again.
The Greg Liddle fins will be available in a week. You may call me at (310) 530-1383 for ordering or stop in at Foam, Fins and Fiber Glass and ask for Scott. Greg Liddle Fins will also be available at FoamEZ, Welcome Brad and Grant good to have you aboard. Ask for the Greg Liddle Signature fins by Fibre Glas Fin Co. at your local dealer.
back in the 70’s me and a couple of other drunks epoxied a tall budweiser can to a board with the fin missing. It road pretty darn good until it fell off.I have never forgotten that.Do you think maybe I could get a signature model beer fin in your inventory? How much could I make in royalty money?Could you pay in cash? Thanks RB
Its nice to see more of the flex fins available from different companys. IMO tru ames are great, the rainbows really dont flex much, and not in the right place. The new fiberglass fin co. GL was foiled and tested by Greg. With not letting the cat out of the bag too much they FLEX properly. By the way anyone whos testing the flex in a true hull type fin be kind to the fin, dont just grab it and CRANK YOUR TUMB OVER AS FAR AS YOU CAN!! it takes the zip out of fin after a while .Ive been known to YELL and THROW things at people I catch doing this.
HI Scott – There are many good people who have worked their asses off for most of their lives in our local surf industry. Most that I can think of still work full time here in Santa Barbara / Ventura Counties eking out a living like most of us. Collectively, in my opinion, it’s a cheep shot putting down these guys, pooling them with the cheep products. All of the craftsman I know, such as Chuck, and Wayne have considerable personal investments in building quality products overseas and have, like I said, given their heart an soul trying to make it go here in California, Still do. It’s a big risk both ways, and not simply taken with the generic comments. Good for you that you are 100% domestic. I know that is a prideful position to be in.
he asked what the difference was and that is the difference, did not say they were better as I buy plenty of fins from chuck, plenty more than most in the ventura and santa barbara counties thats a fact! no bodies putting them down. maybe its greg who saw a difference as to why he went in partnership with fibre glass fin? as a retailer and a custom glass shop owner I invest in my local community(jobs, tax dollars, donations, etc). if those guys want to be in china good for them thats their business models, is that going to stop me from helping out wayne in the near future ? no !
Larry…that’s great that Greg is working with you providing these. Good flex fins came our way in SB from Greenough of course. In the days of Michael Cundith, Peter, Richie West and Bob Duncan the fins were all glassed on. They weren’t ‘right’ unless you could take your little finger a ndtest them at least once without Kirk Putnam around to throw things at you.
how're these different from the l-flex volans avail from true ames?
I thought the TA Volan fins were pretty stiff in the middle of the fin. All the ones I got from GL flex more through the middle (not just the tip). Don’t know about these new ones. Hope they have a little more flex (without refoiling).
