i am still having a small problem when i sand down fin boxes…i get a crack, or separation sometimes. i believe it’s from heating up the box too much??? ehh? i don’t add cabosil in my mix, resin not thick enough??
Been there and done that too. Teddy, I finally decided to use a hard backed disc with something like 36 grit on it. I made mine from an old 6" stiff plastic backing pad and spray glued 36 grit paper to it. I works like a champ, cuts fast and minimized heat buildup. Go slow and don’t take it too close, then finish up with finer grits. Hope it works for you. Tom S.
Teddy if you have a router you can rig it to trim flush to the board surface. I can get all the plugs even leash plugs down on a board in 2 mins or less with no heat at all, and bare minimal sanding. Austin
Howzit Teddy, try using milled fibers for your thickener, since I’ve been using them I’ve had no problems with fin boxes.Aloha, Kokua
yea the best thing is to get a hard… HARD backing pad. and get a 24 or 36 grit sanding disk. Pop that on your sander. and those plugs will be down in less then a min, fin boxes 1-2 min flush. Once i tried it wished i never did it anyother way. Man took a few boards to figure out, but glad i did, http://www.Dirtyglassing.com
