Does anyone know of a cheap alternative for a Hitachi Grit drum? I found trpul drums for cheap, but I assume they will not fit. Any ideas? Thank you.
Why not just remove the blades from the drum and glue a belt off a belt sander on it??
Do NOT Glue a Belt Sander belt to the drum. It spins @ 15000rpm. It is dangerous for both you and the planer.
There is no glue out there that will permanently glue a cloth backed belt to a metal drum spinning at that speed (especially after it heats up from the friction & the glue softens). Once it does, the seam will come loose & catch on something. Your either going to ruin the blank; the planer; or you. Belt sander belts are designed for BELT SANDERS that spin at 0 to 5000rpm.
I use that foaming white Gorilla tape. Or Contact Cement.
Not sure what is cheap. A good one will cost $300 USD +. Check out Foam E-Z. http://www.foamez.com/spiral-shaping-barrel-hitachi-p-506.html
I was seeing if there was any possible short cuts. Think I will stick with the blades. I don’t want any unwanted aggravation or costly issues.
