Gucci Surfboard, Anyone know anything about this board

A friend stumbled onto the owner of this board.  The owner wants to sell it, she paid $3,500.00 10 years ago.  Only ridden twice!

They asked if I had a suggestion for what it is worth.  I have an opinion… just wanted to see what you guys think.

Bill Jon LaLanne here how you doin.???I would beware!!! I printed a Ferrari logo on one of my boards as a joke. That may be printed on an ink jet and thrown on there.I think Gucci would have gone more extravagant on a board like that. Can’t wait to find out though!!!

The Ferrari logo may have looked better on these?

From design perspectives hope you s`lockers realize the value of a name on a board, first point. How much does the wave care about that name? second point. Intrigue caused by a designers take on an un-related area. Meyerhoffer comes to view. I like the gucci more than the peanut on looks. Look at that predominantly well rounded and elongated nose.

I could prolly rip on that board even if it had “toilet” or “stinky feet” written on it. It definitly invites me to try it for a surf just by looking at the shape.

Where is the rocker shot??

There was a thread recently (Perception) about a world class violinist playing a Stradivarious violin who was basically ignored as he played in a subway entrance.

The question raised was if anyone would know if it wasn't spelled out for them.

I wonder if this person (the Gucci board buyer) would know a good board or not minus the logo.  Sounds as if the original value was based entirely on the logo.  Obviously there are very few ways to verify who actually shaped it.

I'd take a genuine Barnfield any day over some fashion/art crowd Gucci.

If you look at the shaper’s website, you’ll see a board he built for Ferrari on the left of the “about” page. Funny, Ferrari is a name associated with speed, yet that outline looks anything but “fast”.

This one:

Great responses guys.  I passed this Swaylocks link on to my friend so he will
inform the owner lady regarding your price suggestions.  For the
record… I told him it was probably worth about $300.00 if they could
find a buyer.  But that if some unique characteristic of the board
could be found, it might be worth much more.   Like this exact one was
used in an ad with Princess Di or something similar.

Anyway…
your suggestions of around $250 were right in line with my guess.  She
wants to get $1,500.00.  I don’t think it will happen unless she finds
a naive, over zealous, rich person.  But it could happen I suppose.
Collectables amaze me from time to time!

Thanks for the input.
Attached is a photo of the board bag… I pressumed Gucci made, but
maybe not.  Least they could have made the bag something extra special
since that is their real product base.

Hi Sammy -

I realize that's what they say.  I was just thinking of the signature models by Phil Edwards, Dale Velzy, etc that are signed by same even though they may not have actually shaped it.  You'd have to ask one of the ghost shapers for details.

If I don't actually watch the guy shaping it, I take nothing for granted.

I think that’s already been established. Fabio Giacomini.

He’s done stints at the Safari factory in SA, and with Nev Hyman in OZ. All indications are that he’s an experienced shaper. Still doesn’t make his stuff worth any more than another guy’s work. No matter what designer label is attached.

hey bill whers the pic

I don’t know where the pictures are!  I will try again.  What is the proper process now?

Hey Bill , click on the little tree , third from right above where you’re typing your post.

The board is a tri fin, includes Gucci leash and board bag.

Thanks but my images are on my hard drive… I think I figured it out again.  It is the camera icon, but the Upload button didn’t show up before… now it is there again and all is well.  I think!

If you ask me, they make much nicer boots than surfboards…

I think the idea of ‘designer’ surfboards is pathetic. A gimmick to get suckers to pay ridiculous prices for a board that is nothing special. The Evolution brand comes to mind.

Since it was priced at ten times the actual worth when new, I’d say it’s worth about $250.00

I think it’s interesting and kind of … funny, comical. Amusing at least. I like the shape and the assymetrical perimeter stringer in the key of blue G reminds me of blue dow foam. , I even like the spread on the fins.

I’d give ya at least 250. for it and I haven’t even ridden it.

bill

If it comes with a Gucci board bag thens its worth every penny

but,,,,,

if its a fake its worth nothing

Does Gucci even sell surfboards???????????

maybe in China

A quick Google about these indicates they were introduced around 2001. Came in two versions. A red 6’6, and a blue 6’3. I remember some online discussions about them when they first came out. Most people were (understandably) nauseated by the idea.

Seems they were shaped by this guy:

I’m thinking that if she wants to recover her money, she needs to hold on to it for about another 40 years so that it can go from nauseating gimmick to uber rare ultra designer niche collectible…find some gucci fanatics.
