H80 DCell/Bass Perimeters

Just a tip with the soric…you have to think of it basically as a mold for making an epoxy honeycomb. Honeycomb is stiff…But it’s strong as hell too. If you do a reinforcement on the deck like with the texalium board I think you would have good results. Maybe even use really flexy epoxy like 2020 or even 2040 for filling in the soric and then wet out the glass with normal epoxy.

Thats a peerdy board DT,

Like the mixing it up look. Are you going to keep it nude-clear.

I am having fun with the H2’s on fat tails.I had one H2 break off in

large surf. They are a little brittle.

Do you change the quad placement for H2’s,

or just do a normal Quad.Details please,

unless this is top secret too.

Ian

Turbo,

Thanks for the tips. I can’t wait to play with it soon. I will try the extra 2020 for sure. I really haven’t messed with it at all yet, do I HAVE to pre-preg it? I was planning on sandwiching with 2 oz. under, 4 over. I still have some 2 oz texalium left, that might look really cool. …

Lava,

The first texalium board had H2 quads, with my regular set up. It worked unreal. I’ve been riding the scimitar Futures, they’re sweet but I don’t really like the pivot fins so far. I really don’t have to worry about breaking fins over here:) But I’m stoked FCS released the different sizes. So far my favorite is the H2 Large up front with smalls in back. But I just got some sweet TPatterson glass lites I wanna try in a reggie and grom sizes. Oh, I have a few of these going through for teamers that will be clear for sure. I could see doing alot more of these if the feedback is all good. As soon as we did the first few perimeters sales really picked up, which was great 'cuz this year has SUCKED!! So right now we’re doing at least 3/4 perimeters, and this is just as easy. Well, the build is just as easy but shaping 'em kinda sucks. It will be cool to see more of these in the water. If there are any Florida builders that want to get involved just let me know. We can do fully custom blanks, no hack junk.

Drew,

I don’t think you HAVE to prepeg it, just remember it’s getting it’s strength from the epoxy filling in those voids. You could actually infuse resin with it…but thats a whole different ballgame… I think the texalium underneath the soric would look sickk, just don’t make the board too stiff, or all the work you put into the stringers went to waste. You might even want to consider lamming the whole bottom with 2020. Where exactly are you planning on lamming the soric? 2oz under/4 oz over will make it really strong…I’ve been using the lightest I could find under, I think its 1.4oz volan. I first tried it with 4oz over and under and it was probablly too strong, that was before I started using the RR resin.

Drew,

you finish this board yet?..I want to see how it looks. I also want to see the fin set-up

Yeah, I would love to get involved with those blanks, how much do you figure you would start at for a 6’2? Im located over in Sarasota, where is your shop at?

What’s up Triton. Check the website: www.inspiredsurfboards.com and mapquest our address. We’re in the oldest city. Website needs serious updating, but we’re offering fully custom services to interested board builders from anywhere. If you don’t have time to experiment, check us out. Turning “I wanna try that” into “I got that” every day. First class service all the way including discounted beachfront rooms in the oldest city, and two on-call world class fishing guides for a true work vacation…

So what you’re saying is that for a price I can rent a space in your glassing room? If I wanted to glass a board and didn’t really want to do it in my garage I could bring all my material and do it at your place? this would be great, I’m still sketchy about doing the fins and could really use your help.

Adam

hi there, I have been using 4 Way Fin Systems for years, i thought you’d be interested to know that we have had the HD-Block out for the last 18 months to compliment EPS/XPS and Eurathane cores and especialy in the kite-boarding market. As we all know the fin systems will only be as strong as the foam supporting them. 4 Ways is the leading the way in fin-adaptability and you are able to adjust your fins to suit the conditions and surfers who ride your boards. for more info on 4 ways, you can visit www.4wfs.com. be interesting to get your feedback. cheers

Although my first EPS board has foam core glass-ons I shall be putting the 4wfs boxes in my next two before christmas.I have the high density foam disks from 4way to do this and it look as simple and foolproof as the rest of the system (which I have used on a few boards now) . The foam disks is crisp and very light but doesn’t deform like eps so shouldn’t add any weight but spread the load mainly to the bottom skin… When I do get round to some compsands I think the small footprint of the 4way box will be ideal because it will have very little effect on the flex of the tail and will be tied to the bottom skin only which should enable the shear and flex that are supposed to make the compsands so good.

Nice photos drewtang especially as I was wondering at what distance to the rails to put in a perimeter stringer not only to avoid planing it all off when shaping but also to avoid the fin boxes going through them.

What’s up Mark. That’s where your trial and error/ engineering comes into play. I have an adjustable tool that lets me hotwire off in 1/4" increments from 3/4" out to 1 3/4". You gotta get it going.

What’s up Surfrat. Yeah, it’s a pretty obvious solution. We thought about it for some time, but just were so busy that we kept installing 100% Futures. Glad they did it for me. I’d like to try your system as well as others out there. It’s just such a 2 horse race at the retail end still. It just reflects the majority of buyers who don’t care to learn more about their equipment. I thought LokBox would have a much bigger share, but there are still so many shops who just don’t want them. Maybe all of the new stuff is changing the system. Sure would be nice if we knew even half as much about our equipment as your weekend golfer!! Personally, I still do 90% glass ons in personals. Chuck Ames fan.

Very cool!

And even cooler to hear from you. See ya in January at the show???

Yes I’ll be there. Some new product coming for the custom industry to be shown there at Expo. Long live custom, right? Hopefully now we’ll have something that offers the industry a new avenue.
