Hand Painted Design

If you hand painted a design on your board using acrylic paint how would you finish it off. Would you just go ahead and glass right over it, spray some sealant on it, or bast it will lam resin with or without catalyst? Thanks as always.

Just go ahead and glass right over it. You’re safe.

Howzit Gregg, I’ve glassed hand painted boards in the past. The thing you have to watch for is thick spots of paint, they want to crystalize when you laminate the board. Aloha, Kokua

Also, be sure you use water-based acrylic paint. I got into trouble using lacquer-based acrylic on the advice of someone else, and had problems with the paint bleeding and causing delamination. Use flat paint, not gloss or satin.

did you use red? sometimes red acrylics don’t like resin and bleed a little. good luck…
