Hand Painting Blanks

I have an artist friend who would like to hand paint (with a brush) a blank I am shaping for him. Any recommendations on what type/brand of paint to use? Any other tips on this process (ie, don’t lay it on too thick, etc…)

US Blanks Red PU Blank with RR KK epoxy lamination.

Thanks,

Jamie

My boards are all painted with the cheep acrylic paints you find in the craft stores or Wally Mart.  Works fine.  Give it a coat of matte acrylic clear before glassing.  Works fine.

Thanks. Are you talking about the spray-can clear-coat or something else?

rattle can

I’ve been doing a combination lately.  Half painted foam and half resin tint/pigment.

One thing I noticed is that a roller sucks for painting foam.  Just get a 4 inch cheap brush(or whatever size you want) and wet it a bit, squirt the paint on and brush away.   The last 3 I did have turned out great.   I usually do the base color on foam, then lam, then hotcoat, sand.  After I sand the hotcoat I’ll pinline the graphic or where two colors meet if needed etc.  Then I hotcoat again.  This gives a more dimensional look to things.

Ofcourse you have to want the weight of the double hotcoat, but I’m doing that as a standard now anyway.

Good luck have fun!

Like Mako said, cheap acrylic. I spent a few hours last hand-painting a 5’ mini board for my daughter with a sponge brush and a pot of magenta Chromacryl paint.
