don’t know if anyone here watches shark tank. i do. i like it. well a pop-out handplane brand was on this past weekend and they suckered persuaded two of the investors (marc cuban and ashton cutcher (sp?)) to give them $200k for 25% of the business (i think that’s what it was, maybe it was 200k for 20%).
all i could think was, “is this for real?!” nearly $1m for a handplane company?
the handplanes are bigger than normal and are glass/foam/carbon construction. they are definitely pop-outs based on their “designed in america, built to last” tag line and retail for $200 or so. they look fun, but they’re pop-outs and how many people actually buy handplanes? seems like most of the people i see with them have made them or just use a lunch tray.

I heard about this recently, gotta say I was a little effin’ bummed out. Those are so damn big, too! And here I am, foolishly trying to sell mine down at the local art/surf collective for $100!
Soon Walmart will be selling the slyde bundle for $39.99.
But hell, good for them I reckon. They made something monetary of themselves I suppose…
They lucked out. They found some fools to give them money. Obviously, the Sharks will not see a return on their investment. Would love to read the fine print on a Shark Tank deal. At the end of the day its a TV show that gets great ratings. Paying out $800k to an entepreneur is probably a lot less costly than paying a bunch of prima-donna actors. Good for them.
