What is the desired/preferred location of hand postion on a handplane – that is, distance from the nose as a percentage of total length? 60% or 40% of length? At the widepoint? Midpoint?
I’ve always set them up so my hand was about in the center. I tend to make smaller planes that are not much bigger than my hand. I suppose it it was a bigger plane it could be moved around more.
I want my weight to be resting over the center of the plane. It’s super easy to ease up on the weight and change how it rides.
I tend to just go out when it’s big and stormy or blackballed. Do a lot of free falling and passes through the spin cycle. Super fun.
