Hanna: NHC advisory winds vs actual

The NHC has Hanna’s winds at 70MPH.

The storm’s center straddled the two Cape Canaveral buoys, so there are two sets of wind data of the storm.

Both buoys read winds between 30-40 knots, that’s approximately 35 sustained (45 gust) MPH ACTUAL.

I’ve known about these wind exagerations for a few years now and typically they are 20-25% in excess of actual.

But the diff between 35 sustained and 70 is 100%!

If you think Im joking, check the data yourself. The storm went right between the two.

buoys 41009 and 41010

I have many theories why this is so…some reasonable, some not so.

I hope this inaccuracy continues with Ike…

Whatever it blew out there, the results were nice here.

Just saw a bunch of pics from Brevard County, Cocoa–nuts. Nuts to you, Mike Daniel–how many killer sessions are you up now in the last month? Wah wah wah, gotta latch down the storm shutters. Cry me a river.

; )

Thank God surf/wind reports are way more accurate,…NOTTTTTTTT

At least by the time I get home from surfing my stories at least match or surpass the usually way over estimated report on surf heights.
