I went out to my local beachie just to be the first to ride a wave there in 2008…but three groms beat me to it.
My festivities are tempered by a brother in law with an undiagnosed illness, some kind of autoimmune syndrome. It affect his bile duct. He’s been on and off ill, and in and out of hosptials since the beginning of summer. In a couple of weeks they’re going to open up and find out what’s wrong (after seven unsuccessful endoscopic stent procedures). Possible outcomes, according to his physician, include lymphoma and/or pancreatic cancer (worse case scenarios). He’s a cool guy, 40 years old, an art director at Nickelodeon (used to paint the SpongeBob backgrounds, now directs others), has two daughters.
Say a prayer for him.

Reading about your bro-in-law touched a nerve…it is sorry news.
The alarm bells ring at the mention of paint…backdrop painter. I’m venturing a wild guess, and you may be aware that his case is nothing to do with it, but the connection between chemicals in paints and illness is a possibilility not unheard-of.

Those were worst case scenarios and instead we’re all hoping for the best.
I got the news this morning. It puts worrying about the lift we’re getting out of our fins into sharp perspective. If you’re surfing, it means you’re healthy, and all other things aside you, I, we are having a good year. Celebrate. Live life to its fullest.

SN, that’s an animated series, so the paint should all stay down on the piece on the table–sounded like you were talking about airborne toxins–sorry if misapprehended though
