Has anyone found one of your old boards?

I had a buddy call me and told me that he found a flextail in Santa Barbara and it turned out to my Shapes and Hulls 6’10’’ flextail Tim Bowler shaped me in 1975. It was in the same condition as I sold it.After 40 years of surfing and way to many boards I dont find to many of my old ones but this ones is so cool 6’ 10’’ by 20’3/4’‘wide nose 15’’ tail 14’’ 7’'of flex fiberglass inverted balsawood where the foam and glass meet so it wouldnt crack, Paul Gross was buliding spoons at Bowlers at the time.Anyway what have you guys found?

Found one of my boards from high school (1968) 6-3 acid splash bottom. Garage sale. 50 bucks. I’m looking at it right now. My most prized board. It has tucked edges. I fine sanded the bottom after I did the rails. Thought it went pretty fast. Who wouldda thunk. aloha, tom

my son found a board of mine on the internet a 1969 Bahne shaped by Michael Hynson one of the first batch of downrail boards . 5’10 beat to crap I was’nt interested in buying it… but my buddy Tim E. drove to LA and bought it , gave it to me .What a guy. Strange thing after 30 years no one had put a leash plug in it. I’m going to fix it and ride it this summer, still have the fin laying around the garage, a wood fiberglass Dolphin fin. I look at the pinlines and wonder how i ever had the patience to do them with resin.

A few years ago I was reacquainted w/ an old board I bought from Joey Thomas in Santa Cruz. I think it was 1976 “West Cliff Surfboards” , a 7’6" pulled in swallowtail , plywood single fin. It had those thick rails and dead flat deck. At the time, if I remember correctly, it was a jump in length for me, trying to learn how to ride the perfect right point breaks that you had so well learned. Boy, was that board hard to ride. I came across it while combing my friends huge back yard. It was buried under years of dead avocado leaves. I think there might have been lichens growing, along with snails and various organic matter. Know one was home at the time, so , I just took it and washed it off , all the time getting caught in a time warp (what fun). I fixed some dings, had a new gloss / polish put on it ,and now look at it daily with great amusement at how cool it is to have an evolutionary time scale that is within our short life span. Thanks for asking! It , still, brings fond memories.

I found a 6’4" swallow tail single fin Gabe Garduque did for me when he was still building boards under the Hawaiian Spirit label in his backyard. It was laying half covered with dirt under my friends house for at least 20 yrs. It’s in half way decent condition, and I’ve yet to ride it again. Gabe went on to ghost shaping for Ben Aipa in the late 70’s then was one of the staple shapers for Hawaiian Island Creations for the longest time. He shaped the gun Brock Little rode when he almost had the barrel of the century at one of the Eddie Aikau meets. A very humble, talented shaper.

I’m not sure I could have kept something like this all those years. Too much bad mojo working with this thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1816089641 TS>>> I had a buddy call me and told me that he found a flextail in Santa > Barbara and it turned out to my Shapes and Hulls 6’10’’ flextail Tim > Bowler shaped me in 1975. Is anybody sure that’s Charles Manson? It almost looks like a mahareshi kind of guy.

Is anybody sure that’s Charles Manson? It almost looks like a mahareshi > kind of guy. Time warp flash back, 1968, Isla Vista, a large old school bus, filled with hippie girls and a couple of guitar playing guys. One wanted to know if we wanted to move to the desert and start up a commune. Damn if it wasn’t Charlie and the “family”. I get too weird with out salt air.
