He was posting all over the place on Sways here years ago. Almost all of his pictures have disappeared though, so you can’t see his progression. He sure does make ‘pretty’ boards on Instagram; but so does everybody else on Instagram. I believe Bill Barnfield (or maybe Thrailkill) can be quoted: “It either looks good in the parking lot or works in the surf.”…or something to that effect.
I’ve never ridden one so don’t listen to me.
Wish I had made a point of watching him and Burch shape at the Board Show. Having not seen either pull the trigger on a planer; I can’t voice an opinion. I will say that both are all over the map as far as what they shape. Think about it. If you were to order a board from either; What would you order?? What is their expertise??
I really want to try one of his v bowls, and will as soon as I find one to ride.
If I Strech my Coil will I end up with a Love Lace ?
Hey Jersey Boy. Stop asking dumb questions. If you want to know about Coil or Strech or Lover do a goggle search… each man is tatally awesome.
If you want to talk about surfboard design and construction… We are here for you.
Stingray
sorry all. just trying to get an idea if this board would be fun for some summer surf for an intermediate.
im 5’11, 190 lbs and intermediate and the board is 5’10 20 1/2 x 2 1/2.
If you like the look of the V Bowl, look at Deadshapers platypus. I can vouch for it. Bruce is a well respected board boarded.
…Lovelace was/is the most successful Swaylocks case…
and like almost all these cases here; now they do not contribute in anything more.
Only there in California, a guy shaping retro boards can be so successful; its almost incredible (not the same incredulity that Biolos tried to manifest in that infamous interview spotted here few weeks ago)
Yes, he has very good surfers riding those boards; imagine these same guys in more modern stuff.
Summer surf? Hope you like to buy a lot of wax…
I’ve talked to a handful of surfers over on the other forum who have surfed that model and without exception every single one of them liked the board** for what a midlength singlefin does**. Which of course is different from what those guys do on the performance boards they also ride. And I can also attest from personal experience that those guys can all surf, so we’re not talking about a bunch of idiots dropping big coin just so they can say they shook Skip’s hand. So to speak.
I’m not aware of a single negative review on that design. So whether it’s a derivative work or not, and whether Lovelace is a spectacular veteran shaper and glasser or not, all the feedback I’ve ever seen on the board has been quite positive.
well, they look good is about it. Better off getting something from andreini or liddle.
Lovelace did “make it” from here though on his own merits AND worth noting, he caught an incredible amount of shit esp from the hull religion core about what he was doing/experimenting with. My limited personal experience with him is that he is super nice guy and very dedicated to the craft.
My vote is for Andreini or Liddle. Lowel
His social media feeds haven’t shown any wide-point-forward hulls in a long, long time. I wouldn’t say that either Andreini or Liddle are doing anything that is directly comparable to the bulk of what he’s been doing for the last 3 years or so.
Trivialize him if you want, but he just won the Icons shape off with his version of the Classic Pipeliner, competing against the likes of Roger Hinds, Timmy Patterson, Pat Rawson, Ron House, and Ward Coffey. That’s not a design he has ever had a significant amount of experience with and he did it in front of an audience in real time with a blank that had been deliberately dorked in order to challenge the shapers.
That ain’t nothing.
Did they surf that board afterwards?
Ryan Lovelace and his friend started ‘Timberline’ surfboards. Ryan shaped and they applied wood covering over the blank. Somebody around here declared that ‘those aren’t wood’ but I thought the shapes with the wood treatment turned out nice.
It wasn’t a “Classic Pipeliner”. It was a single fin Lopez shape as was used at the Pipeline during Lopez’s hey day at Pipeline. Someone must have misinformed me because I heard that Pat Rawson won it. I was at the show but didn’t stay the 2nd day. Someone said that Lovelace got his start here on Sways. That is untrue. He got started before Sways. I don’t think you can compare Ryan Lovelace to Andreini or Liddle anyway. For one thing; They are more focused in what they shape. Not all over the map like Lovelace.
Wood as a component. ie composite. They look great. But I guess I’m splitting hairs. With a foam core; their performance and ride are more akin to a foam board.
…hello Dr Strange, I m not saying that what you says is not right…
-McDing, regarding that what I said is that his make his way here and then forgot like all the other success cases.
