OK - I just watched “Heart of the Sea.” What a beautiful film about a beautiful, beautiful woman. Anybody else see it?
John, You Bet! The film was done with taste and sensitivity. I was very inspired & like everything about the presentation. She was a very unusual person and great example to us all. She made a difference! Those who knew her personally are very fortunate. A beam of sunlight on a wave. Mahalo, Rich
John…also saw “Heart of the Sea” earlier this week on PBS (keep your eyes peeled, all of you!). This documentary brought me to tears. Rella was someone that I truly loved. This excellent documentary not only made me miss her all the more, it made me really appreciate her importance to Hawai’i and to surfing. (Passionately executed movie). Rell was every bit as important as Duke was… as an ambassador to surfing. It was hard for me to watch, at times…not fully appreciating her amazing strength (she hid her pain so well) and the courage she had through the fight of her life. Not many realized how sick she had been (for years…over 14!)until she stopped coming to the beach. This was a true angel who I was blessed to have known and to have shared waves with. You all have to see this film. As it turns out, there will be a Hawaiian film festival - next week - in Manhattan (NYC), and that film will be among the others. Titus Kinimaka will fly over from (the mother’s day south swells on) Kau’ai (lucky buggah) and will introduce a flick about himself. About twenty films will be shown. Come see 'em if you’re in the area. Only two films related to surfing, but you’ll get a good slice of our culture. Try come!
What a remarkable woman…the show brought tears to my eyes…
