heat gun vs hair drier

To get bubbles out of hot/gloss coat epoxy., how much heat is required using the heat gun method? Can I use my wifes hair drier? Wouldn’t the air blowing out push the epoxy?

The great thing about the heat gun is little air flow, lots of heat, it takes practice to get it right. Try the hair dryer on a test piece, though, and report back, I have never tried it, and would like to know if it works.

Did the hair dryer on my last board a couple a days ago. Seemed to work fine. Used it on low after getting it hot on high first. It still pushed out a lot of air… I always pointed it up towards center of board so heated resin didn’t run down the sides pushed by air flow. Was also worried about blowing dust, but seemed ok. Would like to find cheap heat gun that put out less air flow. Still, the hair dryer was successful.

Just a follow up. Used my new heat gun this morning on a gloss coat. How sweet it was. Much better than the hair drier. Set it on low and the bubbles just disappeared as if I had a magic wand in my hand. Anything that didn’t disappear was dust and brush hairs. Made them easy to spot and pick out with my handy dental pick tool. If you are using epoxy and don’t have a hot air gun–get one. You won’t be disappointed.
