Gentlemen… any knowledge on how to make these stringer designs??
I have 2 new boards to shape and Id like to incorporate groovy stringers.
Initially i thought they must have be in-situ when the blanks were blown, but I remember making blanks for Midget years ago and how the ‘coffins’ were a little awkward to work in and around…
Then I thought the foam must have been cut and glued into place around the stringer, but that still would have been quite a palava.
Recently,Im thinking the ‘inserts’ were poured in later.
Thanks Ian, I got a tip from an old surfer at work today who told me that he had made the ‘s’ stringer boards by building all the wooden pieces first with mitre joints,
Then traced the outline of the wooden shape onto a blank, and cut and glued each piece to fit.
But that still seems a lot of work before you even fire up the planer !
The curved stringers just look cool and the complex ones look quite special and are obviously very rare. I had hoped there was a senior shaper who knew the ins and outs, maybe soon.
The coloured inserts sound like a good idea, thanks.
