[HELP] Bottom and rails advice for fish alternative board

Hi!

It’s been quite some time since posted here… life just got in the way :).

I was able to shape my first fish with all the help from you swaylockians, http://www.swaylocks.com/forums/help-needed-first-shape-attempt , and i’m turning to your help again.

So my first boards needs to be substituted. I tried to find some inspiration, and went for the outline of this one http://www.swaylocks.com/sites/default/files/42190427_screenshot2017-07-06at2.png
Seemed like a funky outline template, something to blend simmons with fish with egg.

I wanted to go small. The final dimensions are roughly 5’5" x 20.5" x 2.5" . Nose rocker 3.5", Tail rocker 1.75. Visuals : http://www.swaylocks.com/sites/default/files/mccallum_arc_egg_fishgrocker7.pdf
It’s EPS, and will laminate with epoxy.

I already have the blank, i’m asking fo help for the rest ;). I just want to try and make it simple.

Fins // I have cut some “modern” keels, with I think 6" base x 5" height… https://www.blendingcurves.com/fin-templates/fin-24 … read that quad would be better? Looser? I have some lokbox lbx2 from other board that I could use here too.

Bottom // Leaning towards a flat bottom. Predictable, fast on it’s own without the need to pump.

Rails // Seems the board I inpired from has very angular down rails, and I think that is better for good, steep waves. Hence thinking about fuller rails, like “E” here

I’ll be surfing this in summer waves. Usually fast beachbreak, not a lot of room to maneuver. I just wanted something to “lock-in high”, catch speed, do a big round turn at the end or a floater. That sums up the type of surfing i’m able to do (to the best of my ability) on my home beachbreak. I do ocasionally get surf at a point break too.

Thanks for all the info here guys… got the stoke back to shape a few more

I looked over what you are planning to put together. I think you’re on a good path. The reason I’m having this response, is because the finished board is essentially a BroomTail Fish. A design I’ve had considerable success with, on both coasts, as well as smaller waves in Hawaii. (up to 8 foot Hawaiian) No need to pump the board, it will have a built in overdrive. Hunt down a thread by Lankameese, on his BroomTail experience in Florida waves. It will inspire you.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it

I will search for that BroomTail Fish you’re talking about!
