help lam prob!

can anybody help?

ive just done the first lam on a 9ft with a black pigment. Im working in a cold enviroment but do have some heaters going.

The problem is that it has been at least 18 hours and its still not ready to do the cut lap, ive done all the right amounts even tho i think ive either put to much pigment or its just maybe a bit too cold, is there any thing i can do? can i do a cheat resin coat to see if it will set? or is the blank dead?

I help a guy out with the same problem using a really hot cheat coat. Good luck!

What kind of resin?

Too much pigement in resin will retard the curing as well.

Sounds like you’re using epoxy since temperature seems to be your concern.

Did you add the proper amount of harderner and mix thoroughly?

Believe me, temperature can be a real pain with PE too… when you’re under 50-55° …

If it’s PE, a hot-hot coat or just a fan heater can do the job… if it’s an epoxy mix fail… delam’ and restart…

Z.

Too much pigment just dilutes PE resin.

Makes resin very rubbery.

Cobalt helps.

Pigment in Epoxy sometimes comprimises mixture ratio.

Its a poly job.

nightsman - you should have enough points to reply in this thread now.

How “cold” are you talking about?

Cold workspace + lots of pigment in poly resin means you need to be really generous with the catalyst.

Besides using space heaters, you should keep your resin someplace nice and warm until just before using it. That helps a bit.

If it hasn’t kicked in 18 hours it isn’t going to get much better. Hot cheater coat, as others suggested.
