Help me pick a new Logo!

This has been on the cards for a while now!

These are going to be screenprinted, so they have to have a white background so they will stand out against tints.

The main thing is they need to look good on both shortboards and old school logs.

i talked to a few designers about a new logo over the past few months heres what they came up with

i will put up the designers name and hopefully they will get a bit of business further to this.

see what you think

to start this is my current logo

Desingner # 3 Mark Chivers…

The dripping wet Glide… Best in black, second best blue…

Which one of the three in pic 2 though?

the bottom one

just the G would be good too , no tribal .

i like mark chivers pic 1

the ones with the drips

…hello man,

bear in mind that a logotype is a thing that you do not change every couple of years or so

You do not change drastically a logotype. Think Coca Cola for ex

is the same logo but modified a bit to fit era s designs but never change at all.

-you have there a very specific “shortboard” style, longboard style ones and kind of “cool retro” style ones.

so see what s the type of boards that you make most and start from there.

-without thinking in previous sentences, I like designer 4 picture 5 for longboards and “all arounds” and 7 for fish, eggs and stuff.

it is 'your' logo , it has to be what you want and it is a representation of what you are all about, nobody else should pick it imho.....

and the board type will come into it too, if you want to follow usual trends and styles of logos for certain board types that is...totally up to YOU.....

Are you a hobbyist or are you making the leap into production???  Please don't take this as too harsh as I'm trying to be helpful but none of them jump out and grab me.  The sad thing is 90% of the people buying surfboards in a surfshop are buying the logo and the image that goes with the logo.  They know nothing about surfboards.....and often the salesperson in the store doesn't either.  If you are making the leap to production the logo might be the most important decision you make.  I'd keep working on it.

I'm a big believer in Simple Is Better.  Also if you do much color work you will want a logo that will work with the range of color you use.  Look at the board brands that have been hugely successful and you will see that almost every one of them had a very simple logo.

ive had the original one for 8 years now, so with getting them screened i think i need an update.

it really is hard to find a new logo that will work on everything!!

at the moment all im doing is logs and shortboards but that could change next week!! :o)

i know what you mean, i just put this on here as i wanted some critisism of the logos

i liked the thread that hang 20 did a while ago on logo designs

in the end i will pick the ones i like

though at the moment it looks like i will have to get one for logs and one for other boards as none will work on both

critisism is good!  it all helps in the long run :o)

im in production, but over the last 2 years ive worked with zeph and pavel and there logos are on another level, as ive just been printing them myself

colour of logo isnt a problem as i can get different coloured ones printed

the problem is getting something that will work on a dark tinted log and on a shortboard

The current colors don't work for me but the symbol and the font are cool. Think about using that one in a different color scheme. It could be dissected also, you can use just the symbol alone on parts of the board and the letters on another part.

If you want some inspiration, check out this site, your Glide logo is on there.

If I had to pick from these I would take pic 5.  Don’t use font with Serif for logos is pretty much a standard.   I have done it as well and usually end up going back and checking. Clean works. The art can be whatever, but the words need to bold and easy to read.  Pic 1 would be great with different font.

I love Theon Doran’s #3. Very simple and (IMHO) will go fine as it is on white boards and you just need to have it also printed in reverse (black lettering, white ink splash) for tinted logs.

Oh, and, go with what YOU like. When I decided to change mine, I had all kind of suggestions made by friends and designers. All of them were most likely made out of common sense but those people weren’t really involved. It’s one thing to have a logo that is (supposedly) top-notch marketing but in the end the question is: do you really want it on your boards?

Great words. Very true. It has to be uniquely you first.

Howzit pauluk, I like the Green and Brown ones in pic 4 . Aloha,Kokua

I like the drips the most as a universal logo.......

I like Andy H pic 1 for shortboards and Mark C pic 2 for longboards.

Derek’s pics.1&6 are on the right track working the Irish angle, tho. You’re from an wild and exotic place on the surfing map and I’d want something unmistakeably Irish in my logo to convey that.
