I used EPS foam and epoxy resin. I finish to do the glassing more than 24hours and iam before the hot coat , but i notice couple of things i would need some help from you guys.
Should i sand the laps before the hot coat? if i would not sand the laps and would be within 24h of glassing woulbe ok or whould the laps still need to be sanded?
Definitely sand them. It’s probably the most stressful part of the board build for me as it has the most potential to damage the board and sand through the laminate.
I actually attack the high, lumpy bits with the surform rasp. Then hand sand the laps with a 40 grit and a hard sanding block.
If you have left it that long to do the hot coat it may be a good idea to rough up the surface of the whole laminate. This will allow a good bond with the top coat.
BUT most importantly you must handle the board with gloved or super clean hands as any oil residue from you hands and skin can be 100 times worse for the bond between the laminate and the filler coat.
That’s some pretty ugly lap work! Sorry. I prefer autobody files to sand paper at this stage. Sand paper can follow the contour. A file just hits the high spots
sandpaper will work, but try a Vixen file, they are sharp enough that you don’t even really want to hold them bare-handed. Oh yeah, next time try cutting your glass at the corners so it doesn’t bunch up like that after wrapping it round the board. Do a little practice Origami with the glass before you get it wet with resin.
