The Army Corps of Engineers, in their continuing quest to ''protect our shorelines'', has plans to bury a substantial portion of a living reef in Brevard County, Florida. This reef is a federally protected marine habitat, and the defined bottom gives us something to ride other than the typical Florida beachbreak. If you've ever caught RC's or one of the other breaks on a good day, you know what I mean.
These projects are also a huge waste of taxpayer dollars, in a feeble attempt to protect structures built right in our dune line.
I think the ACOE would be glad to hear from you, why not? They don't think surfers are very important. It would be good for them to realize that there is an international community that doesn't think they should be burying reefs.
Of course, it's US tax dollars that are wasted on these dredge projects; so input from US taxpayers is very important. The bulk of the funding is Federal, so every US taxpayer is paying for this nonsense in a time when our government is operating in the red. Dropping notes to your congressmen and senators is also suggested.
