Help to optical identify S-Glass vs E-Glass

Hey,

I got an order with 50m E-Glass and 40m S-Glass. But in my opinion they labeled it wrong, because the smaller roll looks and feels like my older E-Glass one. Would be fine for me with 10 m S-Glass for the price of E, but please help me to make sure I don’t mix them up all the time…

Cant help you with that but if you dont mind I have a question.

im making myself few kiteboard, and im wondering if you can notice the diffrences between the E and the S-glass. hope you dont mind answer

I never had two boards with the same blank and glassing schedule in S- and E-Glass. That’s why I wanted to give it a try.

Test sheets are laminated, but I can only test them via stepping on them or throwing things at them, so no real test. But I hope I can verify which one should be S if no one can tell me.

S has a twist in the weave.

Sglass is left roll. E glass can be twist too like 1522 or 471 from hexcell for exemple. Sglass is whiter than eglass that’s a bit green.

It’s both Hexcel 1522. I couldn’t see a difference in the weave. Thanks for the idea with the color lemat!

In cases of pressure dings I couldn’t really see a difference between E- and S-Glass. I stood on test pieces with my 185 pounds and measured the depth. I used 2/3/4 layers of E- and S-Glass oder light EPS and the depth of my heel dent was pretty much the same. More testing for impacts will be coming as this interests me most, but this has to wait till next year. Going out of country to surf the next months.

So for sure wighter is sglass. 1522 is plain wave with twist yarn in both direction, same as surf sglass.
Sglass is slightly lighter and slightly stiffer than eglass but that’s only a touch more. The main difference is sglass have near 2x elastic élongation so you can stretch is more so elastic strentgh and impact strengh are far better. You can’t hope a big benefit for dent strengh at same weight of glass but a tougher skin.
