Help w/ cutting fish outline

I am about to cut out a fish outline and was hoping someone can advise. Should I cut the outline of the entire board right from the get go or should I wait until I have roughed out the bottom and deck to cut out the large swallow tail? I was thinking if I left the tail square through rough out this would help me to keep both sides of the tail symmetrical in shape and thickness. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The way I do it is to cut the outline, but leave the swallow tail till almost the last step, after the rails are turned

I agree. 1st one I did I cut the swallow out with the outline and it just made life more difficult.

agreed…

when doing deep swallow tails, cutting out the tail is the last step i do before screening down the final shape. they are just to delicate for a wrecking ball like myself to leave hanging out there whilst i dance around with tools

good luck
