Help with Epoxy Leash Cup Installation

I just finished routering my leash cup and mixed the RR epoxy resin with a little Q-cell and some shredded fiberglass cloth.

with the exception of an airhole that blew through the side of the cup looks pretty good.

I will fill the hole when it finishes curing. The cup has tape over the top and sticks above the deck by a little bit.

The question is what to do next. The board has already been hotcoated but not sanded.

Should I sand around the cup, but not sand down the cup and then apply the gloss coat then sand to lie flush with deck,

or

Should I sand the cup while I am sanding the hotcoat and then recover and do gloss coat?

Doesn’t make sense to me to sand cup flush until the gloss coat I think but my buddie says otherwise.

Any help is appreciated.

I would sand it down flush now, tape over the plug inside of the line that joins it to the board, (just slap tape on, burnish with fingernail, gently run an exacto around in a circle, then peel off excess) then gloss over–you don’t want any water to get in between the plug and your laminate–sometimes the epoxy can crack away from the walls of things like plugs and vent plugs, so by sanding now then glossing over that little join, you are re-sealing it.

Enough about me, what do You think about me?
