help with glassing

I am ready to glass my first fish. What oz. glass should I be using for a 6ft 2in fish, would 2-4oz. on the top work with 1-4oz. on the bottom? And how much cloth will I need to finish that board, and how much resin? Also do I need to do a hot coat of resin or sealing coat? Thanks for the help

My first board was a 5’ 11" fish. I had it glassed. They used 2-4oz top and 1-4oz bottom with a sanded finish, no hotcoat. Granted this is my first fish and short board, but for me the 4oz combo works good. I made my tail a little thick so I think the lighter weight helps me move it around easier. Don’t know if you have ever ridden a fish before… they are a blast. I mainly would ride longboards so I had to switch my stance for the fish. Once I got used to a more aggressive and lower stance things started to click. Material wise, I plan to glass my next board. I plan to talk to the guys at either Foam EZ or Fibreglass Supply inc. Their pretty helpful and should be able to steer you in the right direction. Have fun with the fish. The tail’s a little tricky => John

There are several options when glassing. You can glass with 4 oz.bottom and double 4oz. deck. Probably won’t last long depending on how often you surf it or take care of it. You could go 6 oz bottom, 6 oz deck with a 4 oz deck patch for a bit stronger, heavier board. I don’t mind a little extra weight and glass mine 6, 6, and 6oz. You will need about a gallon of resin if you are as sloppy as me and it’s your first. You will need laminating resin and sanding resin. Get a gallon each then there will be some left over to encourage you to make another board. Try the suncure resin if you can get it. mike

If you got a sanded finish then you got a hotcaot. Just wanted to clear that up for you.

Howzit Spazman, Some body is interested in that set of K 2.1 fins but you have first shot at them. I'll wait 2 days to hear from you and if I don't hear from you I'm going to have to give them to the other guy. We have a saying here " He who hesitates doesn't make the wave". Aloha,Kokua

You can give them to th eother guy. I wont be need them for like another 2 weeks.
