Hi, I want to put a layer of hemp on the deck of my board. I will be using PU/Solarez. I plan on going with 1 6oz layer Eglass on bottom with 1 layer of 6ozE-glass and 1 layer of 4.5oz Hemp Weave on the deck. My question is would it be better to do two 6oz layers on deck and put hemp in between or just lay hemp layer down on deck and glass over with one layer of E-glass?
Also, for the vents- I have researched and havent found exactly what is they do? Most research on vent plugs is also for EPS/Epoxy boards… so i guess my question is are they necessary for PU/Poly boards? if so where is best location for a 6’2" shorty?
EPS cores and hollow boards have much greater amounts of air in them, which can cause problems when it expands due to heat or airplane cargo hold pressures. So the vent alleviates these problems.
Double 6 with hemp as well on the deck will be really heavy.
Not sure if one 6 ounce and the hemp will be enough, but my guess is it will be fine.
I’ll let the guys who have more experience with hemp answer that one, but double 6 ounce and hemp is massive overkill!
It also depends what weight(density) blank you have - if you have an ultralight blank, you’ll need to glass it heavier that a standard one
Not sure about a hemp sandwich with fiberglass, but here’s some of the feedback I got when I was looking at doing a hemp lamination:
Hemp stretches a lot, much more than fiberglass, so it’s best to use a flexible epoxy system with it. On boards that are all hemp, poly will crack.
No experience with this, but I would think that if you’re going to do a hemp/glass combo, put the hemp underneath. One layer of hemp and one layer of 6 oz should be fine. The hemp is a bear to sand, so it would be great to have the easier sanding glass on top.
