here fishy...fishy...fishy

heres a fish i just finished for another buddy of mine it's a 6'4" x 21 1/2" x 3" I know thats a big board for a fish but he's 6'3 225lbs this is my #005 and the 2nd board i've glassed. Once again any and all feed back weclomed. I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. It;s the only way to learn and get better. i really love doing it and whole process coming for a custom wood working background i think has given me an edge over most beginners. there's nothing like see a board come to life. Until you ride it and realize what you want to change here and there for the next one. guess that just part of perfecting your shapes. I tried to insert the photo's in the tread hopefully it works.

Thanks Everyone,

Combat Surfboards

hahaha guess it didn't work

CS, your friends sure do llike their deck pads.  Youch again!

LOL your killing me smalls...yeah maybe it's a younger generation thing i dont know. I myself don't hardly feel comfortable riding without one. I've always surf with one so to me it just feels naked without it.i really like having the lip on the kick pad when doing powerful moves.I can really dig into it and lay it out without fear of my foot sliding off. i guess the old school guys probably feel the opposite. to each his own

now if i could just figure out the photo thing i might be doing alright

Big boobs, small bra........I have to look.....that's your stomp pad to me...I had to look...get rid of the small bra, find something that fits better......

Nice board......shop looks like a fire hazard....I like the gun better( different thread)...is that a gas hot water heater I see in one of the photos.....kaboom!

This board is not a fish by San Diego standards......you asked for comments......

I bet the board will surf great......but not a "fish"........we love photos....

Stingray

I don’t like the outline mate

looks clean overall.  some bumps in the outline though.  can we get a side view shot of the rockers and foil?

kirk

stingray- thanks man! I told him if he wants a kick pad get a fish pad but that what he got cause it was rasta colors like the logos i did for him.then i told him at least fan it out but he wanted it all closed together. his board i just put it on for him. as for the garage well we had a cold snap come here and i wasn't going to sand in my shaping shack outside cause it's not climate controlled.

kirk- I'll try to post some rocker pics later today

Thanks everyone

yorky- what dont you like about the outline? more info would be helpful, your not going to hurt my feelings. I'm posting for feedback so i can progress as a shaper. As i'm mostly learning because i have three kids and want to shape their boards. Is it the job i did or the outline temp itself. I took the C.I. fishcuit and copied it in aku shaper. Thanks again

Hey, I don’t like the ease for people to grab a board and copy it in to A machine. Simple! I just don’t think it is worth fast tracking your shaping skills with out you earning your stripes, for your own PRIDE,  (if you hadn’t of said tried to copy a popular companies design I would have broke things down about it) The “fishcut” outline doesn’t look like that…Does it? I don’t know.

Everything is subjective to personal preference.

I’ll say I don’t like where the straight in the outline, Looks kind of like a “Dog bone” shape.

Use your Kids to grow your knowledge of design over TIME. Open your minds Eye!

Every one wants it Now with out putting in the time…

My Question to you is. What Do you see in your Fishy outline?

All the best with your family.

**FUCKING MACHINES BUSINESSES. **

**YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THE STAND ALONE MACHINE CUTTER PISSES ME OFF! **

…hello man, looks like a shortboard with a fish tail and a bit more tail area.

but remember: if you shape a real fish you cannot obtain the same type of performance or feeling of the board if the board is more than 6ft no matter if the rider is big

If its big he can ride with a 6x22x3 with a super thin thickness in the tail area; that, can hold a 98 Kg very well; if some one insist that those dims are too small, well, better use another design.

Definitely a good job...but I see some issues with the outline as well...some minor bumps in the nose area but the most noticeable thing that I don't like is the back 1/3 or more of the board...the outline goes straight then pulls in to the tail abruptly. Maybe that's the biscuit/fishcuit thing....not translating to what you were going for...or maybe that was what you were going for...anyway...I bet it rides just fine..I'm with Yorky though...I really just do my thing pretty much. I can get inspired by someone elses designs...but never knock one off exactly.  Plus all the stuff I really like is 35 plus years old!! or OLDER! But some people don't like my stuff because I like to float big MF'ers on scaled up short boards! Yes...8' is short!!! Rock on man! Just my 2 cents!

Yorky- i'm with you on the machine cut outs. but by no means was this machined in any way. i just said i tried to simulate the board in the program aku shaper which is just a free download in which i created a template to go off however they do have software for the cnc machines. i think there was just a misunderstanding there. i know it's not a standard fish but it;s what he wanted and he asked me if i could do something like the c.i. fishcuit so i tried to get it the closest i could. i personally ride my fish 5'10"- 6'0" i'm be straight forward with what i did and not trying to copy and claim it for my self. Although even the big name shapers copy and tweak each others shapes. everyone suspects the al merrick dumpster diver was a knock off of the roberts white diamond. virtually the same board merrick just put a squash tail one it. all the same i think all shapers are inspired by each other in one way or another and make little tweaks to call it their own.

i'll try to put up a pic of the merrick fishcuit so you can see what i was going for. i personally think i got pretty close

here's merricks/ the 6'4" big boy version for my buddy/ and the last is a 6'0" version i did for myself

hey look there im already learning from you guy's i got my pics in there... hahaha

hope to make some great friends on here and learn even more. i might be going to S.D. in march and would love to link up with someone out there

Keep it going ComBat....just keep shaping and building.....

true up the outline , get better at glassing...you are looking good.....

Really F'ing good for your 4th board.....

and big boobs...well,,,,my daughter has a friend.....and..well...you know.........I try not to look but I'm a MAN.........

Stingray

Thanks a lot stingray. I think my custom wood working background has played a major part in the shaping and being comfortable with the tools. The glassing is what i was so afraid of but once i did it, it wasnt nearly as bad as i antisipated it to be. Hey im a man too so post some pics of that daughter's friend....hahaha

By the way the 6'0" is my #001 first board ever shaped. Did all the logo's myself but i had glassed by a local pro shaper
