hey kokua

you glass in warm temperatures right? what percentage do you kick off lam? on one of my recent boards i kicked it off at 1.75 percent and it was about…77 degrees. around the bottom of the lap it turned yellowish, but not noticeable enough to affect the bottom resin tint. thank austin

After buckling my favorite travel board in Kauai, I thought of Kokua for a fix… After checking him out , i was stoked to find out he works alone, as I do. Mike does it the right way and has the clientele to show for it. Lucky us! Thanks for the visit and stories. Your the man.

Howzit Austin, I’m pretty much using UV resin these days and it seems that when using catalyst with UV it kicks a little quicker so if I use it instead of the sun I back-off a little on my catalyst. 10cc’s for under a quart w/UV 12cc’s with non-UV. For larger amounts of resin I just wing it,I’m not really much of a % person. Aloha,Kokua

Howzit eastern pac-man, Stoked you stopped by and thanks for passing on the t-shirt. Sorry I couldn’t take care of the buckle but there just wasn’t enough time. The weather stayed crummy til yesterday and with Thomas’s death I was pretty much a mental mess. I tried to do those painted pin lines after you left and my brain wouldn’t work. I had to hang it up for the day but things are better now and I’m back on track. I sent an e-mail to J.A. but never got a response. Hope you enjoyed your stay on Kauai. Aloha, Kokua

Me too Kokua…whats a percentage?I just use the little lines on the measurmatic catylist dispenser.I think that suncure is the best thing going for small time builders. It was the first method used for setting resin off way back when…I wonder why it took so long to make it back? R.B.

Hey, Kokua, you know the guy in Kapaa town name Ambors Curry. I have been looking for a email address for him. Could you help me. TK Bagman

Hope I’m not butting in but I have Abrose’s phone number, not sure if he has an email or not. It’s (808) 822-3926… or at least it was the last time I checked.

Howzit Bagman, Keith has the right Phone # but let me see about an e-mail address Ambrose for you.Aloha, Kokua

Howzit E.P., Talk about clientele, do you remember the Sex issue of Surfer( feb. 02), remember the pic of the girls okole paddleing over a wave? that’s Korel and the blue/green board with red pin in the shop was for her.I also did the color work on her board in the mag. pic. She’s one of the original Roxy girls and my girl friday for surf contests we work. Aloha, Kokua

a roxy girl friday. hmm , sounds nice. I met Mark S. down @ middles. He moves around that place with the greatest of ease. PS / Kokua = great surfboards.

Howzit E.P.,Yeah Mark’s a good surfer, was he riding the longboard with a red overspay and black pin? Just did that one for him a couple of weeks ago,it’s got a 6oz warpglass bottom with double 4oz warp deck. Mark’s really weight concious about his boards, that one weighed in at 12lbs and he really likes it. Aloha, Kokua

what is warp glass??? is it a special type? or brand?? havnt heard of it before

…It’s a refined “E” type glass.Herb

Howzit E.P., Mark was just here to pick up some FCS plugs and fins and informed me he sold that board(red over spray) to Jeff Hakman after letting him ride it. I guess it’s time to make him another one. Aloha, Kokua

Howzit John, Warp glass has more glass strands running lenth wise than across. The weight of the glass is the same they just change the configuration of the weave. It’s designed to help prevent breakage. Aloha, Kokua

Right On thanks kokua… I guess you learn something new everyday huh?? especially at this website.

If I recall it was a longboard w/ grey rails and a quicksilver logo(s). Say hi for me. I’m thinking of that warm water. JA’s been away, I think I saw him yesterday.

Howzit eastern pac-man, O.K. that board was one of Ryan Hakman’s boards that he broke and Mark had it fixed and rode it occasionally, but he sold that one too. Surfs fun today, head high and reeling. Aloha, Kokua

Howzit John C., you’re welcome, on swaylocks help is just a question away. Aloha, Kokua
