Hi-perf thruster thickness/rocker change

My favorite SB at the moment is a 6’1 rnd pintail and I broke the 1st 12’’ off the nose yesterday when my neighbor snaked me, then fell in the trough-

2 3/16

18 1/4

N-rocker is 6’’

T-rocker is 1 1/4’’

I totally sink the board (I’m 5’7 & 172)

but i’m in great paddle shape, and have no problems riding the board @ all…

My question is how much will change if i template the board exactly, but take the thickness up to 2 1/4, or 2 1/2? Also, me and my duplex neighbor both shape, and we both measured the rocker on this board with a 6’ level and both came up with the same rocker dem’s…it just seems like alot of rocker up front & not enough in the back? If I brought the n-rocker down to 5’‘, and brought the t-rocker up to 2’’ how would it effect perf? Better paddling, better pocket turning? Any advice is always greatly appreciated!

something must have been going on with your measurement technique because your standard shortboard would have the standard rocker if you added the 1’’ off the nose to the tail (like the level being perfectly horizontal resting on the board, but the racks the board is resting on are not level). It will ride very similar but have a bit more glide in the paddle (and the ride) with the same template/bottom/rocker but some added thickness. You lose some sensitivity though.

In reference to what you said about rocker, “you added the 1’’ off the nose to the tail”…did you mean normal/modern/typical SB rocker of NR-5’’ & TR-2 1/4’'?

If so, that’s what I’m leaning toward shaping, ie,

6’1X2 2/5’'X18

NR-5’'

TR-2 1/4’‘-2 1/2’'

more dwn the line speed, easier entry, but more pocket-friendly r-end…does this make sense?

yep…

but dont go thick you need more planeing area for your weight 18 7/8 would be closer…

thin means twitchy and sensitive …

thick means BOAT…
